What is a GEO content checker?

A GEO content checker scores a piece of writing on how easy it is for an AI system to read, trust and quote. GEO stands for generative engine optimization: shaping content so that ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers can pull a clear passage from it and credit the source.

Classic SEO tools look at keywords, links and page speed. This one looks at the writing itself. Does the page answer the question in its first lines? Are the claims specific enough to check? Is it obvious who wrote it, and when? Those are the things a language model leans on when it decides which sentence to lift.

The result is a score out of 100, a breakdown across six areas and a ranked list of fixes, all produced in your browser.

Be realistic about it. The score is a rule-based estimate of how quotable your content is. No AI provider publishes its selection rules, so no tool can promise a citation. Use the score to find weak spots, not as a guarantee.

How to check your content for AI search

It takes about half a minute.

  1. Choose how to add your content. Use Check a URL for a live page, or Paste content for a draft that is not published yet.
  2. Add your main topic if you like. It lets the checker confirm your title, opening lines and headings stay on subject.
  3. Press Check my content. The tool reads the main text, ignores menus and footers, and runs 22 checks.
  4. Read the fix list. The top items add the most points. Work down from the first one.
  5. Edit, then run it again. Re-checking after each round of changes shows what moved the score.

If a site blocks the fetch, switch to Paste content. Plain text works for the writing checks, and pasting the page's HTML adds the technical ones.

What the GEO content checker scores

Every check returns 0 to 100 and rolls up into six areas. The weights show how much each area counts toward your overall score.

AreaWeightWhat it looks at
Answer readiness22%Does the opening answer the question? Are headings phrased as questions? Does each section lead with its point?
Factual density20%Numbers, named people and products, concrete units and dates, and how many empty superlatives creep in.
Authority and trust18%Linked sources, attributed claims, a named author, a visible date and first-hand evidence.
Content structure16%One H1, clean heading order, section length, short paragraphs, lists and tables.
Clarity14%Sentence length, reading ease, filler phrases and unexplained acronyms.
Technical readiness10%Title, meta description, structured data, indexability and image alt text. Needs page HTML.

When no HTML is available, the technical area is skipped and the other weights are scaled up so you still get a fair total.

How to read your GEO score

The number is a position on a simple scale, not a grade you need to max out.

80 and above

Citation-ready. The content is clear, specific and well sourced. Keep it current and fix what is left.

60 to 79

Good foundation. The basics work. A handful of targeted fixes will make a visible difference.

Below 60

Needs work. Answers are buried, claims are vague or sources are missing. Start with the first three fixes.

Look at the dimension bars before the total. A page can score 75 overall and still have a 30 for trust, which tells you exactly where to spend the next hour.

GEO content checker vs SEO checker vs grammar checker

These tools answer different questions, and a page can pass one while failing another.

Tool typeQuestion it answersTypical checks
Grammar checkerIs it written correctly?Spelling, punctuation, tone
SEO checkerCan it rank in a list of links? Keywords, titles, links, speed
GEO content checkerCan an AI quote it with confidence?Answer-first writing, facts, sources, structure

GEO builds on SEO rather than replacing it. A page that cannot be crawled or indexed will not be quoted anywhere, which is why the technical checks sit alongside the writing checks. Answer engine optimization (AEO) overlaps heavily: both reward short, direct answers to real questions.

How to get cited by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI

No tactic forces a citation, but the pages that get quoted tend to share a handful of habits. These are the fixes that most often move this checker's score.

Put the answer first

Open with a one-sentence answer, then explain. An AI system that finds your answer in the first lines can lift it without rewriting.

Write headings the way people ask

“How much does it cost?” matches a real prompt. “Pricing considerations” does not.

Replace claims with evidence

“Faster results” is hard to quote. “Cut setup from 4 hours to 35 minutes in our test of 12 teams” is easy to quote and easy to verify.

Show who stands behind it

Add an author name, a short credential line and a “last updated” date. Link the original source for every statistic.

Make it extractable

Use short paragraphs, numbered steps and comparison tables. Structure lets a model take exactly the part it needs.

What kind of content should you check?

Drafts before publishing

Paste the text, fix the red items, then publish with confidence.

Pages you want cited

Guides, definitions, comparisons and how-tos that answer a question directly.

Older posts

Find which refresh will lift the score most: a date, a source, a sharper opening.

Product and service pages

Check that specs, pricing, limits and policies are stated plainly enough to quote.

Help articles and FAQs

Support content is often quoted. Make sure each answer stands alone.

Competitor pages

Check a rival's page that keeps getting cited and see what it does that yours does not.

Common GEO content mistakes

Burying the answer

Three paragraphs of scene-setting before the point means the point never gets lifted.

Marketing language in place of facts

“Industry-leading” and “seamless” say nothing a model can verify. Specifics beat adjectives.

No author, no date

Anonymous, undated pages look untrustworthy to readers and machines alike.

Walls of text

Long unbroken sections give an AI nothing clean to extract.

Facts with no source

A statistic without a link or attribution is easy to ignore. Say where it came from.

Chasing the score

Padding a page with numbers and question headings to raise the total makes it worse for readers. Fix what is genuinely missing.

GEO content checklist

  • One H1, then H2 sections of 150 to 300 words.
  • A first sentence that defines or answers, in under 30 words.
  • At least a few headings phrased as questions.
  • A number, a name or a date in most paragraphs.
  • No unbacked superlatives or filler openings.
  • Sentences averaging 15 to 22 words.
  • A named author, a credential line and a visible update date.
  • Links to the original source for every statistic.
  • Lists and tables for steps and comparisons.
  • Article or FAQ schema, a title, a meta description and a canonical link.

How often should you re-check your content?

Check every new page before it goes live, then again whenever you change it meaningfully. For existing pages, a review every three to six months catches stale dates, dead sources and outdated numbers.

Fast-moving topics, such as pricing, regulations and AI tools, deserve a monthly look. Keep a note of each score so you can see whether your edits actually helped.

GEO content checker FAQ

What is a GEO content checker?

It is a tool that scores how easy a page is for AI systems to read, trust and quote. It looks at answer-first writing, factual detail, structure, sources and technical basics, then gives a score and a list of fixes.

What does this checker score?

Six areas: answer readiness, factual density, authority and trust, content structure, clarity and technical readiness. Together they make up 22 individual checks, each scored from 0 to 100.

How is it different from an SEO or grammar checker?

Grammar tools check correctness and SEO tools check ranking signals. A GEO checker asks whether an AI could confidently lift a passage from the page and credit you for it.

What does the overall score mean?

80 or above means citation-ready, 60 to 79 is a good foundation with clear room to improve, and below 60 means significant gaps. The dimension bars show where to focus.

Can I check a URL instead of pasting text?

Yes. Use the Check a URL tab. If the site blocks the fetch or builds its content with JavaScript, switch to Paste content and add the text or the page HTML.

Does my content leave my browser?

Pasted content is scored entirely in your browser. In URL mode the page is fetched directly, and if the site blocks that, through public relay services. Nothing is stored by this tool.

Why did my URL fail to load?

Some sites block automated requests or need JavaScript to show their content. Open the page, view the source, copy it and paste it into the Paste content tab for an exact result.

Will a high score get me cited by ChatGPT or Perplexity?

No tool can promise that. The score measures how quotable your content is, which helps, but AI providers do not publish their selection rules and results vary by prompt.

How do I improve a low score?

Start with the first three items in the fix list. They are ranked by points gained. Usually that means a direct opening answer, specific facts and a named author with a date.

Is this tool free?

Yes. It is free, needs no signup and has no usage limit.
