ChatGPT Visibility Tracker: Track Your Brand Mentions

Your buyers stopped searching for a shortlist. They asked ChatGPT for one.

PilotDeck is a ChatGPT visibility tracker built for teams who need more than a one-off spot check. We run the questions your buyers actually type, then report whether ChatGPT mentions your brand, where you sat in the answer, and which competitors were named instead. Your ChatGPT visibility is the new shortlist - and this is how you measure it, then fix it in the same place.

Why ChatGPT visibility decides your shortlist

Google gives a buyer ten links and lets them choose. ChatGPT gives them a paragraph with three or four names in it. There is no page two in an AI answer: you are either inside that paragraph or you are not in the conversation at all.

Where buyers start

The shortlist forms before the visit

When ChatGPT names brands in response to a buying question, it is writing the shortlist. People then visit two or three sites to confirm what the assistant already told them, and by the time they land on you the comparison is over.

What it costs

Being unnamed looks like nothing

If ChatGPT mentions a competitor instead of you, nothing shows up in Search Console. No impression, no click, no query. Your analytics stay quiet while the demand goes somewhere else.

What changes it

Rankings and answers move separately

A top Google position does not guarantee ChatGPT mentions you, and plenty of brands get named without ranking at all. They are two systems, and they need two sets of measurements.

How to monitor ChatGPT visibility without guessing

Ask the same question five times and you get five answers: different brands, different ordering, different sources. That is by design - temperature, model routing and live retrieval all move the result. Real ChatGPT visibility tracking means sampling, not spot-checking.

Sample, don't spot-check.

Each tracked prompt runs many times a day, so what you read is a rate with a range around it, not a single lucky or unlucky answer.

Split by model.

Models do not name the same brands at the same rate. We keep them apart so you can see which version of ChatGPT is the one ignoring you.

Split by mode.

A search-mode answer and a purely conversational one are earned differently. Reporting them as one number hides the part you could actually fix this month.

Everything the tracker reports back

One view of your ChatGPT visibility - mentions, position, sources, sentiment - and a clear next action against each gap.

ChatGPT mention tracker

The core rate: how often ChatGPT mentions your brand across the prompts your buyers ask, charted daily and week over week.

ChatGPT rank tracking

Where you land inside the answer. Being named first and being named fourth are not the same outcome, and only one of them survives a skim.

ChatGPT Citation & source tracking

The exact URLs sitting behind a ChatGPT Search answer. Usually a review site, a Reddit thread or a competitor's blog post - now you know which one to displace.

Competitors named instead

Who takes the answer when you are missing, and how often ChatGPT mentions them beside you when you are not.

Sentiment and accuracy

How you get described: recommended, hedged, or wrong. Outdated pricing and features are flagged so you can correct the record.

Drop alerts

When ChatGPT mentions of your brand fall past a threshold you set, you hear about it that day rather than at the end of the quarter.

ChatGPT Conversations and ChatGPT Search are different problems

Most tools merge ChatGPT Conversations and ChatGPT Search into a single score. We keep them apart, because the work that fixes one barely touches the other.

AspectConversationalChatGPT Search
Where the answer comes fromModel training data, up to its cutoffLive pages pulled at the moment of the question
LinksRarely shows a sourceCites the pages it used
FreshnessCan be months out of dateCurrent
What gets you namedHow established your brand is across the wider webContent that is easy to quote and already ranks
What we do about itMentions, reviews, comparisons and community presence built over monthsPublished pages structured to be lifted straight into an answer

In practice that means a ChatGPT Search answer is winnable in weeks - publish the page, get it retrieved, get cited - while the conversational side moves on the slower timescale of how widely your brand is written about. Tracking both tells you which lever is worth pulling this quarter.

Compare ChatGPT mention tracking tools

If you are weighing up the best tools to track mentions in ChatGPT, four differences do most of the work. Everything else is dashboard styling.

That last row is the one that matters. A tracker that tells you your mention rate is 11% has given you a number; the work of turning 11% into 40% is still sitting on your desk.

How it works

Hour oneHand over a domain

We read your site, work out your category and competitors, and build the prompt set your buyers would plausibly type.

Day oneGet a baseline

Every prompt runs across models and both modes. You see your mention rate, your position, and the brands named ahead of you.

Week onePublish against the gaps

The prompts you lose become briefs, and the briefs become published pages - reviewed by a person before they go live.

Every monthRe-run and correct

Research runs again from scratch. What earned mentions gets more of it, what didn't gets cut, and the reason feeds the next month.

The details that matter

Why a tracker beats asking ChatGPT yourself

Asking it yourself is worth doing once - it is often how founders find out they are invisible. What it cannot tell you is whether the answer you got is typical. ChatGPT varies run to run, personalises around your account history, and changes with every model update. A tracker removes all three: clean sessions, repeated sampling, a fixed prompt set, the same measurement every day. That is the difference between an anecdote and a number you can act on.

Why ChatGPT gets facts about your brand wrong

Two causes. In conversational mode it is working from training data that may predate your current pricing, positioning or product. In ChatGPT Search it is summarising whatever pages it retrieved, which are often third-party listicles written by someone who last looked at you a year ago. Both are fixable, and both start with knowing which claim is wrong and which source it came from. Inaccurate mentions are flagged with the run they appeared in, so you can go after the source rather than argue with the model.

What actually moves a mention rate

For ChatGPT Search: pages that answer the prompt directly in the first two sentences, hold specific comparable facts, and are structured cleanly enough to be quoted without rewriting. For conversational answers: presence across the sources models were trained on - comparison pages, category listicles, review sites, community threads, and steady publishing under your own domain. Neither is a switch you flip. Both compound, which is why we measure monthly rather than promising a week.

How this connects to the rest of PilotDeck

Measurement on its own is a dashboard. The tracker feeds the content engine: a prompt with a low mention rate becomes research, research becomes a brief, and the brief becomes a published page with a human sign-off. The next run tells you whether it worked. That loop is the product - the full method is here.

This is built for you if…

  • You sell software or a service people research before buying, and that research now starts inside an assistant.
  • You suspect competitors are winning answers and you have no way to confirm it.
  • You rank on Google but traffic keeps flattening, and ChatGPT visibility is the gap you have never measured.
  • You want the fix included, not a dashboard that hands you a list and wishes you luck.

Common ChatGPT visibility questions

How do I check whether ChatGPT mentions my brand?

Run our free check: enter your domain and we run a starter prompt set through ChatGPT, then report whether you were named, where in the answer, and who was named instead. If you carry on, PilotDeck tracks the full prompt set daily.

How often do you check?

Daily, sampling each prompt many times per run, because a single answer is not representative of anything.

Can you track ChatGPT Search separately from conversations?

Yes. They are reported as separate rates, and you can segment further by model, topic and country.

Do you track other AI engines?

Yes - Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini are tracked alongside ChatGPT, since buyers rarely use only one.

How long before my ChatGPT visibility improves?

The baseline is same-day. Movement in mention rate usually takes weeks to months, and depends on how competitive your category is and how thin your current presence is. Anyone quoting you a fixed timeline is guessing.

Is ChatGPT visibility included in my plan?

LLM brand visibility is included from the Base plan up, with a human reviewing every article on every tier. Full pricing is on the page.
